I have an MA (Distinction) from Bath Spa University on the Writing for Young People course, have participated in many critique groups including at City Lit and supported other published and unpublished writers with one to one feedback on their WIPs. I have been helped by mentoring in the past and would like to give back. I was a WriteMentor mentor in 2020. and 2021.
This year I’m offering to review a submissions package. I’m looking for contemporary/historical YA or MG mystery, but open minded.
Some of my favourite YA novels are A Swift Pure Cry by Siobahn Dowd, Revolver or most anything by Marcus Sedgwick, Orbiting Jupiter by Gary Schmidt and Kes by Barry Hines. I loved Lampie by Annet Schaap (which was longlisted for the Carnegie). Above all I like character driven novels, where you can really invest in the MC’s predicament and laugh and cry along with them. A bit of humour doesn’t go amiss!
