WriteMentor Summer 2021

I am happy to announce that I will be mentoring on this summer’s WriteMentor programme. See link below.

Here’s a bit about me and what I’m looking for in a submission from potential mentees. See my ABOUT page for more information.

I have an MA (Distinction) from Bath Spa University on the Writing for Young People course, have participated in many critique groups including at City Lit and supported other published and unpublished writer friends with one to one feedback on their WIPs. I enjoy giving and receiving feedback, have been helped by mentoring in the past and would like to give back. I was a WriteMentor mentor in 2020. My first novel, a contemporary dark upper age YA love story, was inspired by my family connection to the East coast of America and longlisted for the Chicken House Children’s Novel Competition 2016. My latest novel, a family drama also set in America, is currently out on submission and was longlisted for the Mslexia Novel Competition 2018 and the Mslexia Children’s Novel Award in 2019. I am represented by David Highams Associates.

I’m looking for contemporary/historical YA or MG mystery, but open minded.

Some of my favourite YA novels are A Swift Pure Cry by Siobahn Dowd, Revolver by Marcus Sedgwick, Orbiting Jupiter by Gary Schmidt and Kes by Barry Hines. More recently I loved Lampie by Annet Schaap (which was longlisted for the Carnegie). Above all I like character driven novels, where you can really invest in the MC’s predicament and laugh and cry along with them. A bit of humour doesn’t go amiss!

Best of luck to all!
